Red Shed Tack Shop joins Honey Dew Acres farm in Crary Mills

CANTON -- The Red Shed Tack Shop is the newest addition to Honey Dew Acres farm on the Post Road in Crary Mills.

With the help of a $19,845 grant from the St. Lawrence County Local Development Corporation’s Microenterprise Grant Program, the full-service equestrian facility is offering a fully stocked tack shop with the latest in riding fashion and accessories.

The Cambridge family has envisioned opening a tack shop for years to accommodate requests from their growing clientele who would rather buy locally than order from a catalog. The on-farm store will allow beginning riders to acquire basic apparel and accessories on the spot.

Products include English tack, riding apparel and accessories, helmets and boots, stable and grooming supplies, supplements and treats, saddles and horse blankets.

Says farm co-owner Peggy McAdam, “The Entrepreneurship Center at Clarkson University helped with educating us as business people. With our newfound education we started working with the LDC, and were able to secure funds. These funds bridged the gap between good ideas and reality. We are fortunate to have such resources available."

“Mark and Peggy and their daughters Emily and Tania have done tremendous work to improve Honey Dew Acres farm in the last couple of years since we have been working with them,” said Raymond Fountain, CEO of the SLCLDC. “A loan from our Microenterprise Revolving Loan Fund last fall helped them to construct their new indoor riding facility, and this grant has enabled them to provide an additional service to their niche clients in opening the Red Shed Tack Shop.”

The shop’s hours are Wednesday 4-8, Saturday 10-4, and by appointment. Walk-ins are welcome, too. They will also be open during horse shows and events held at Honey Dew Acres farm.
