MADRID – With the closing of the C.O.R.C. Thrift Store after decades in Potsdam, New Beginnings Clothing and Food Outreach, 3065 County Route 14, Madrid, wants people to know they’re saddened by that, but they’re still operating.
New Beginnings “joins the rest of the Potsdam community in bidding a fond good bye” to the C.O.R.C. Store, wrote Laura McGrath in an announcement. “For many years, the staff at New Beginnings has enjoyed working with the staff at the C.O.R.C. store and we will miss them.”
New Beginnings is also a non-profit independent charity. Donations of clean, gently used, or new clothing, household items, food and personal hygiene products are always needed. Staffed only by volunteers, the proceeds from the sales at the thrift store are used to provide food and clothing assistance to low-income families and people facing unexpected emergencies, fund the backpack program for Madrid-Waddington students, supply food for the local children’s summer recreation program, and financially help other area non-profit organizations. All contributions to the federally recognized charity are tax deductible.
New Beginnings is open for business on Wednesdays from 1 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Donations are welcome during store hours or by appointment: 315-322-4364. Thrift Store: 315-322-7823 (only on Wednesday and Saturday). Food Pantry: 315-322-4073.
“Thank you to all the people who have supported this charity for over 25 years,” said McGrath. “Community support keeps our doors open; come visit us.”
