POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce’s first formal gala Nov. 9 honored three citizens for their contributions to the community.
In a ceremony in Clarkson University’s Old Main, Potsdam Chamber Rob Bicknell presented the awards for Commitment to the Community, Pride in Potsdam, and the Chad Fuller Memorial Award.
Yvette Narrow was this year’s recipient of the Commitment to the Community award for "her unwavering devotion" to the Potsdam Nutrition Center at Midtown Apartments, the chamber said.
The Pride in Potsdam Award was given to the local Snack Pack Program Coordinator Laurell Brault for efforts to provide healthy snacks and lunch items to students each week. She was proud to tell attendees that over 300 students now benefit from the program.
Leon Martin Jr. was the posthumous recipient of this year’s Chad Fuller Memorial Award. The award is given to an extraordinary member of the Potsdam community with a lifetime of duty to others in exemplary service to the community. Such qualities are integrity, purpose beyond self and a high standard of personal and occupational performance. Accepting the award was his wife, Paula, and daughter Belinda. Ailing since an accident in November, 2018, Leon Martin, co-owner of Martin’s Service Station, died in July .
The award is named for Chad Fuller, a Potsdam native and 1998 graduate of Potsdam High School who, as a US Army Specialist, was killed in 2003 in battle against the Taliban in Afghanistan.
