POTSDAM – Parking in downtown Potsdam will be free of charge during the Christmas shopping season.
The village has approved a resolution making parking free on the streets and lots of downtown from Nov. 19 to Dec. 31.
The Potsdam Chamber’s Holiday Shopping Weekend is Dec. 3 and 4, offering special events and sales at local businesses.
Shoppers will be able to enter the Gift Certificate Giveaway, with top prizes of $100 or $50 in Potsdam Chamber Gift Certificates which are accepted at over 130 businesses in Potsdam.
For a second year during holiday shopping weekend, the chamber is organizing a Merry Tuba Christmas concert at the Methodist Church, Main Street, on Dec. 3.
The concert begins at 4 p.m. Donations will be accepted on behalf of Helping Hands of Potsdam.
Other special events include two tree lightings, the Plumb Tree, near The Clarkson Inn, on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m., and Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. the village tree near the Potsdam Museum.
There will be entertainment and refreshments at both tree lightings.
“The chamber appreciates the village’s support in offering free parking during this time,” said Potsdam Chamber of Commerce Director Marylee Ballou, “It helps the chamber to promote local shopping for the holidays.”
