CANTON – An organizing meeting for the second annual Local Living Festival in September is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 in the Canton Fire Department Community Room, 77 Riverside Dr.
Organizers from the Sustainable Living Project, dedicated to sharing “simple living” and traditional rural living skills, will discuss the festival and goals for the year.
Creating the Local Living Festival and the SLP's year-round workshops is a large endeavor, so anyone interested in joining the effort is welcome.
Other projects to be discussed include creation of a “Homesteading College,” and perhaps a community store or other profit-making and community-building enterprise.
Also on the agenda are intern mentoring, local event collaborations, a contra dance (jointly with TAUNY and the SLU Greenhouse, in February) and more.
Specific volunteer opportunities will be presented, though the SLP is open to working with volunteers to see where their talents would best fit.
The SLP is a project of Seedcorn, a non-profit educational organization in Potsdam, and is funded entirely by donations, volunteer time and small grants.
