MASSENA – The New York Power Authority informs the public on the details of ReCharge New York, a low-cost electricity program aimed at attracting new businesses and encouraging existing organizations to stay and grow, at meetings in at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Hawkins Point Visitor’s Center, 21 Hawkins Point Road.
Under the program, companies will be awarded power contracts based on capital investment commitments, job retention and creation, consistency with regional economic development council priorities, and other factors. Businesses participating in the program must also demonstrate a commitment to maximizing energy efficiency.
“ReCharge New York is a potent economic development initiative for providing eligible businesses throughout the state with low-cost electricity, to support new and existing jobs and capital expansion,” said Gil C. Quiniones, NYPA’s acting president and chief executive officer. “The meetings that the Power Authority will be holding throughout the state beginning next week will provide businesses with information on the key elements of the new power allocation program in order for the state to maximize the economic development benefits.”
The program, which becomes effective on July 1, 2012, was signed into law earlier this year by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
