North Country lawmakers sponsor new ‘Thousand Islands – Seaway Wine’ legislation
State legislation has been passed that will extend the “Thousand Islands – Seaway Wine.” Trail’ The bill was sponsored by North Country Assemblyman Mark Walczyk, R-Watertown.
The measure will extend the existing Thousand Islands-Seaway Wine Trail, which was originally created in 2007.The new wineries that will now be included as part of this new law are The Cape Winery in Cape Vincent and White Caps Winery in Chaumont.
“Not only will the extension showcase the area’s agribusinesses and help market them as tourist attractions in their own right, it helps give new lifeblood to the entire Thousand Island corridor, including the islands, state park, hospitality industry, historic sights, arts and other not-for-profits, small shops and businesses – all hit particularly hard by the pandemic,” Walczyk said.
The bill, which was also sponsored in the state Senate by North Country Sen. Patty Ritchie, was previously passed in both houses of the state Legislature during this past Legislative Session.
The bill passed unanimously in the Assembly.
