NNY Maple Fair to be held at Gouverneur High School Jan. 28 with numerous workshops about the business

GOUVERNEUR – For those who want to learn new ideas or brush up on their maple knowledge before the start of the season, the 2012 Northern New York Maple Expo will be held at Gouverneur High School Saturday, Jan. 28, with registration from 8 to 8:40 a.m. followed by a general session.

The expo is hosted by Gouverneur FFA with support from Cornell Cooperative Extension and St. Lawrence County Maple Producers Association.

The registration fee is $15 (and includes lunch).

Some of the sessions to be featured are: backyard/beginner sugar making, getting more out of your tubing, safe-guarding your maple operation, maple value added products, New York forest owners association, the economics of buying and pricing sap, what’s in your sugarbush?, oil burner operation, efficiency and safety pointers, woodlot safety, 2012 farm bill, marketing and the best way to make it work for you, product liability and farm coverage for the maple producer, sugarbush thinning improves tree growth and sap quality.

There will also be maple confections such as maple walnuts, cheese cake dip and maple wing sauce.

The Gouverneur High School is located at 113 East Barney St.
