MASSENA -- The Massena Chamber of Commerce honored four local people for contributions to the business community at their 2019 annual dinner.

The event, dubbed “Winter Wonderland,” was held Thursday, Dec. 12 at Vino Vidi Vici, 10 W. Orvis St.

The Business Leadership Award went to Denise Laneuville, who owns Laneuville's Liquor on East Orvis Street.

"Sometimes she is quiet, like leading by example. Denise is a great example of business success that can serve as an example to others," her nomination said. “The store is clean, neat and well lit. Denise and all her staff are exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable. It's the type of store where they remember names and faces. Prices are competitive, but I think many customers go there because of the atmosphere Denise has created."

Josie Hardy, who just recently opened Hardy's Bakery on Willow Street, received the Excellence in Entrepreneurship award.

"Hardy's Bakery because her desserts are amazing and she's the sweetest person too! I'm so happy to see her open a storefront!" her nomination said.

Diane Kennedy from the Via Main restaurant was recipient of the Community Support Award.

"Diane is very generous in donating money and gift certificates to fundraisers, benefits, and jamborees. In addition she has hosted many sports team breakfasts and dinners," her nomination said. "She also routinely takes customers' bills and has their meals 'on the house' as random acts of kindness. She is the epitome of small town business and genuinely wants the community to succeed."

Tori Lashomb was named the chamber's Volunteer of the Year.

"(She) consistently helps support chamber and community events," her nomination said. "She volunteers for every event and does a great job."
