POTSDAM — Marigold Kitchen and Bakery has opened in downtown Potsdam.

The eatery focuses on food that is locally sourced with clean ingredients that appeal to diverse palates, said Gail Anderson, owner. “

“Offering prepared savories and sweets the food ranges from decadent to wholesome. Special diets are considered, featuring enough options for meat eaters as well as vegans,” she said.

The bakery counter brims with cinnamon rolls, croissants, brioche and cakes by the slice or whole. There is also a cookie island.

Anderson lives in the village with her husband Dan Dudek and daughters , Ella and Laura.

Before her children were born, she owned two restaurant/bakeries called Gail’s StationHouse I and II in Connecticut, which were regularly voted as having the “Best Breakfast” by Connecticut Magazine.

The New York Times raved, “This kind of cozy and comfortable hangout should be in every Connecticut town.”

She thoroughly enjoyed the creativity and community involvement of a bakery and restaurant and said she is excited to be back in the kitchen.

Sample offerings include quiches, London broil, jalapeño cheddar crab cakes, spanakopita, samosas and veggie burgers, to name a few. Side dishes are ala carte with ample selections of vegetable and grains.

Hot soup and house-made macaroni and cheese are becoming local favorites, she said.

On the weekends brunch is available featuring crepes, pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, and egg and cheese sandwiches on their own croissants or sourdough bread.

It features an open kitchen design which Anderson and the staff love.

“Most typical kitchens I have worked in are sequestered in the back with a door that maybe includes a small window,” she said. “I really enjoy the interaction this space provides, particularly hearing the laughter out front. It makes it all worthwhile.”

Marigold Kitchen and Bakery is located at 21 Market St. (the former Wear On Earth space) and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
