WADDINGTON – The Kunoco Food Mart/IGA along State Rt. 37 that closed last June is reopening as LaVigne’s IGA of Waddington.

“We’re hoping May 1,” said Todd LaVigne, who with his brother Kirk operates IGA markets in Potsdam, Brasher Falls, North Lawrence and Chateaugay.

The brothers were approached by Bill Tiernan, well known in the Waddington community, to open and run the local grocery store to restore an extra shopping location in the village.

“He wanted the grocery store back in Waddington and he was going to make it happen,” Todd Lavigne said. After speaking with the LaVignes, Tiernan bought the property and is leasing it to them.

By May 1 the brothers hope to have renovations inside done and new gas tanks, pumps and canopy installed. They plan on repaving the parking lot, and “we’ll wait for the weather to be better so we can see what else is to be upgraded,” Todd said.

He said they planned no major changes to the product lines in the store, and are doing their research to see which gasoline provider they will use.

They have not yet decided on things like the hours the store will be open and how many employees they will hire for the store, at 150 Lincoln Avenue at the corner of Oak Street.
