POTSDAM — Hot Tamale, 34 Market St., is back open and under new ownership.

The Mexican-style eatery was sold by Marc Morley to Steve Bond near the end of January in what Bond describes as a “partial sale.”

Bond said the sale entitled him to the logo, name and some equipment. He is renting the space from Frank and Lisa Sergi.

Bond, who owns rentals locally and ran Backstreets for over 20 years, is excited to bring the eatery back to the community.

“It’s a nice market niche for Potsdam — I was always interested,” Bond said.

The menu will remain the same and hours are 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. with extended weekend hours that will depend on business needs.

“The menu was working in the past, so why fix it,” Bond said.

About a half dozen employees will help run the business, including some former staff from before the closure.

Hot Tamale now accepts credit and college cards, as well as cash.

“This should make sales easier,” he said.

Those looking for delivery will be happy to know it is an option once again. The phone number is 315-265-5555.

The restaurant closed abruptly around the holidays when Morley, its former owner, shut it down for financial reasons. Several other restaurants he owned closed around the same time.
