CANTON — Corning Incorporated announced that it has formalized an agreement with OtterBox to market Amplify, a new line of screen protectors for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.

“Built on Corning’s glass science and engineering expertise, this latest solution for the mobile consumer electronics industry addresses many of the challenges faced by consumers using existing screen protectors, including the desire for better scratch resistance and durability to handle everyday use, while preserving the beauty of their device,” said a Corning press release.

“Corning saw an opportunity to improve performance for those seeking added protection for their mobile devices,” said John Bayne, senior vice president and general manager, Corning® Gorilla® Glass. “Many of the existing screen protection products were under-serving the market. The collaboration with OtterBox couples Corning’s industry-leading expertise in glass technology and proprietary manufacturing processes with OtterBox’s world-class customer service and superior global market access.”

Amplify screen protectors are made from an ion-exchanged aluminosilicate glass composition that has been specially formulated for screen protectors. On average, Amplify screen protectors provide up to five times better scratch performance and 25 percent less visible scratches than the leading glass alternative in lab tests. Amplify is designed for long-lasting protection and is easy to install.

Amplify screen protectors are now available on Otterbox.com and in corporate Verizon retail stores in the U.S.

“Consumers are spending more and more money on their smartphones,” said OtterBox Chief Executive Officer Jim Parke. “Their phone screen is the window into their world and a gateway to their most important memories. They want that protected. By working with Corning, we will be able to meet those demands better than ever before.”
