CANTON -- Alison Power of Massena, former St. Lawrence County journalist and North Country congressional district staffer, is the new St Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Tourism, Marketing and Outreach Coordinator.
Power is the daughter of the late William and Oske Serabian Power of Massena. A graduate of Massena Central High School and Smith College, she began her career as a reporter with the Ogdensburg Journal and Advance News. She eventually became managing editor of those newspapers after also serving as editor of The Plaindealer weekly in Canton.
She left journalism to join the staff of former Rep. David O'B. Martin in Washington, D.C., as the congressman's press secretary.
Prior to returning to St. Lawrence County Power was a freelance writer for various web sites and marketing and branding initiatives based in New York City. Throughout much of 2010, she was media liaison for GOP congressional candidate Matt Doheny of Watertown.
"The Chamber is delighted to have someone of Alison Power's experience and credibility," said Pat McKeown, Executive Director of the Chamber. "All our initiatives, like FISHCAP, the carp tournaments, and the business shows have pushed us into high gear. Alison Power's return to our community is good for the Chamber and good for the North Country."
