CANTON – The Canton Chamber of Commerce executive director is stepping down from the post and the chamber board is seeking a replacement.

Director Allison Bauer, who took over the reins from longtime director Sally Hill in November 2017, has accepted a position as general manager of the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Canton. The new hotel, being constructed next door to University Plaza, is slated to open sometime this year.

“I have recently accepted a full time position and unfortunately have to part ways with the Canton Chamber,” Bauer said. “I am so thankful to the Canton community and the Chamber Board for making my time as Director a memorable one! The amazing volunteers, friendly business owners, and the welcoming nature of the community is what made my job so special. I appreciate the opportunity and experience that my time as Executive Director has given me.

“I plan on supporting the community in other capacities as I still hold Canton dear to my heart. Thank you all again for allowing me to serve the community and businesses over the last year and a half,” Bauer said.

The board is currently advertising for a new director to fill the part-time slot.

The position offers 20 to 30 hours a week and requires a flexible time schedule.

In addition to representing the chamber’s member businesses in various capacities, the director is in charge of spearheading several Chamber events every year including Canton Winterfest, Peter Rabbit in the Park and the annual Dairy Princess Parade.
