HAMMOND -- The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce will give awards to Potsdam’s Clarkson Inn and Hammond Barn Quilt Trail at their inaugural Tourism Awards Dinner May 11 at Bella Brooke Winery, 2989 County Rte. 6.

The inn will receive the chamber’s “Best to the Guest” award.

This award recognizes a business giving what the chamber calls an “excellent guest experience.” They cited the inn’s “customer service, unique offerings, and attention to detail.” The chamber said the recognition is in part based on “referral reputation in the community and online reviews from guests.”

The barn quilt trail will be recoginzed as “Best Destination Marketing Initiative” for devising “the most outstanding tourism marketing campaign or initiative to raise awareness and attract visitors to St. Lawrence County,” according to the chamber. They describe the trail as a “community-organized effort to increase visitation to a rural part of the County stretching from the St. Lawrence River to Black Lake.”

The chamber pointed to the trail’s 30 quilts in their first year, along with creating a brochure and map, hosting a grand opening with bus tours, creating short videos and a website and “engaging partners across the region.”

The chamber will also give a nod to the Raquette River Blueway, county multi-use and county wine trails.

The event will include a 4 p.m. brochure exchange, happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. and buffet dinner and awards from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dinner includes marinated chicken breast, top round beef, baked ziti, tossed salad, green bean casserole and salt potatoes.

There will be a cash bar.

Event admission is $35 per person or $260 for a table of eight.
