MADRID – Raymond (Red) and Betty (Allen) O’Neil, 2260 St. Hwy. 310, Madrid, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Lobster House Restaurant, Norwood, on July 6.

The party was given by their children: Dawne (Stuart) Barkley, Madrid; Raymond and MariaLuz O’Neil of Niceville, Fla.; Patrick O’Neil of Hatfield, Pa.; and Soctt and Mara O’Neil of Madrid. The couple also has eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The couple wed February 20, 1960, at St. John the Baptist Church, Madrid, with Father Dewey officiating.

Members of the wedding were: best man, Ronald O’Neil (brother of the groom) and maid of honor, Karmen Allen Gurney (sister of the bride).

Raymond is retired after 35 years at the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp., Massena, as a chief heavy equipment supervisor. Prior to that, he was employed by Alcoa.

Betty is a self-employed licensed beautician.

Raymond enjoys working on machinery, old cars, and carpentry. He is a 50-plus year member of the American Legion, Madrid, and a 46-year member of the Madrid Fire Department. He is also past chief, and current member of the Amvets.

Betty enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with family. She is a 40-plus-year member of the Madrid American Legion Auxiliary.
