In a heartwarming display of community support, the local Potsdam mosque has generously contributed $1000 to the student-founded non-profit organization, Second Chance Scholars. Founded by Brandon Rodriguez, Second Chance Scholars is a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding individuals transitioning from incarceration into society. The organization focuses on facilitating successful reintegration through educational opportunities upon release.
This significant donation, in partnership with Potsdam@RCF, is making a tangible impact by assisting a deserving student in securing housing upon release, allowing them to continue their education in HVAC at SUNY Canton. The Potsdam mosque, known for its commitment to community welfare, has demonstrated its dedication by donating $1000 to Second Chance Scholars. This gesture underscores the mosque's ethos of supporting local initiatives that aim to empower individuals through education.
“There are so many people who struggle with dignity in life and who are wronged and judged, maybe even heartbroken. They don’t find anyone to give them a hand or ask how they are doing, to help alleviate their sorrow or to protect them.

The messenger of God, Mohammed (God’s Blessings and Peace upon him) ordered Muslims with seven things: he reminded of visiting the sick, to walk behind funeral processions, to bless one who sneezes, to reply to greeting, to support a wronged (person), to answer a call, and to honor commitments). Through this donation, our mosque is supporting a person who deserves the second chance he is pursuing, is answering a call of duty, and is honoring our commitment to the well-being of all human beings” Imam Tarik Ait Maatallah said.
Second Chance Scholars, a non-profit organization founded by a student, focuses on providing opportunities for individuals seeking to rebuild their lives through education. The organization strives to create pathways for those who have faced adversity, ensuring they have a second chance to pursue academic and professional goals. The collaboration with Potsdam@RCF further amplifies the impact of the mosque's donation. Potsdam@RCF, known for its commitment to community development, is playing a pivotal role in channeling resources to where they are needed the most, aligning with their mission to foster positive change within the local community.
The $1000 contribution from the mosque, in conjunction with Potsdam@RCF, has been instrumental in securing housing for a student who is on the path to reintegration after being released. This support is particularly crucial for the student, who is set to continue their education in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) at SUNY Canton. By facilitating housing for a student pursuing HVAC study, the initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also contributes to the long-term educational and career goals of the recipient.
The collaborative effort between the local Potsdam mosque, Second Chance Scholars, and Potsdam@RCF exemplifies the strength of community bonds and the positive impact that can be achieved when various entities join forces for a common cause. This donation not only provides tangible support to a student in need but also serves as a testament to the community's commitment to fostering second chances and facilitating educational opportunities for all.
