POTSDAM — Both the town of Potsdam recreation program at Postwood Park in Hannawa Falls and Norwood Beach are taking applications for lifeguards and other positions for the summer swim season.

“At Postwood we are currently hiring for Head Lifeguard/Lifeguard Manager, Lifeguards and Substitute lifeguards. New this year, we are hiring a few people to do light maintenance/cleaning and to run the concession stand,” said Michelle Garrow, the Potsdam Town Recreation director and Norwood Beach aquatics director.

Garrow said the program at Postwood will open for the season around Memorial Day.

“Again this year, we will have swim lessons throughout the month of July and will begin taking registration in June. We will also be doing the ‘Coaching Health’ program weekly this summer,” she said.

Postwood Park Beach will also play host to a triathlon for the first time this year.

Garrow told North Country This Week that details on the event will be posted as soon as they become available.

The beach in Hannawa Falls will continue to rent kayak and paddleboards this year as in years past.  Those interested can learn more on the park’s Facebook Page at Town of Potsdam Recreation Department-Postwood Park.

“Norwood Beach is currently hiring for Head Lifeguard/Lifeguard Manager, Lifeguards and Substitute lifeguards.  We are planning to open on Memorial Day weekend,” Garrow told North Country This Week.

The aquatics director said Norwood Beach will have kayak and paddleboard rentals during the summer as well, along with its monthly duathlons and a triathlon in August.

“We are currently accepting reservations for the pavilion,” Garrow said.

“Swim lessons will begin in July and we will start taking reservations in June.  We will also be hosting the ‘Coaching health’ program at the beach as well as many other activities,” she said.
