The Madrid Waddington Central School drone soccer team will be competing at the U.S. Drone Soccer National Tournament for the second year now.
The team, made up of eight students in grades 8-12, won first place against other teams from New York State, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania at the Region II at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica recently.
As a result, the team will be making a trip to compete against teams from around the United States in the National Tournament at Virginia Tech Saturday, April 27.
“The trip to Nationals will give our students exposure to other students working with drones, aeronautical engineering, and coding. This new program at Madrid-Waddington has been an excellent opportunity for our students to incorporate engineering, coding, aeronautics, aviation, team building, piloting, and gamesmanship strategies into one course that gives them skills spanning much further than the game of drone soccer,” said Coach Michelle Burke.
