John Charles Carney, 83, formerly of Massena

MASSENA -- John Charles Carney, 83, of Morrisville, died in peace on April 30, 2024.

He was born on January 25, 1941 to Charlie and Rose Carney and was raised in a section of Massena, NY known as 'The Springs.'

John attended local schools until he enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17. His Navy service was spent on the aircraft carrier, the USS Randolph. Upon completion of his Navy enlistment, John joined the United States Coast Guard.

When John's time in the military was completed, he used the GI Bill to attend school in PA where he learned the printing trade.

His first printing job was with a firm in Manchester, VT. John moved to northern Vermont in the late '60s to work as a printer for the News & Citizen in Morrisville which was owned by the well-respected printer, Clyde Limoge.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Rose.

He is survived by his three children; Matthew and Caroline of Rutland and Rebekah of Johnson as well as his granddaughters; Gaia, Opal, Autumn and Sage and great-granddaughter, Yvonne. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives; Tom and Sue of Johnson and Paul and Karen of Massena, NY in addition to his nephews and niece; Michael, Timothy, Jeremy and Samantha and great niece Taylor and great nephew Eziah.

John was a resident of Copley Manor in Morrisville where he received excellent care and was made very comfortable throughout his stay. Our family appreciates all the Manor staff that went above and beyond with John.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 2:00PM at Lamoille View Cemetery in Johnson, VT.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the des Groseilliers Funeral Home in Hardwick, VT.
