John C. Keenan, 79, Waddington

WADDINGTON -- The family of John C. Keenan, age 79, of Irish Settlement Road, are saddened to report his passing on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

The family has entrusted arrangements to the care and direction of Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington.

There will be no public calling hours per his wishes.

Private viewing for the family will take place at the convenience of the family with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waddington, NY at a later date.

John was born in Malone, NY to the late Bernard and Julia (O’Brien) Keenan on August 14, 1944.

Raised in Brasher John attended school at Salmon River Central School and graduated in 1962.

Shortly after graduation he joined the National Guard and served proudly for 6 years.

He later joined the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local No. 322 in Massena, NY and John worked construction for nearly 35 years before retiring.

He was also a Member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Fort Covington, NY. He was also active with the Hogansburg Akwesasne Fire Department.

In his pastime, John enjoyed watching NASCAR and watching antique tractor pulls.

He and his wife, Linda spent over 30 years raising purebred quarter horses and enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Alaska and Hawaii.

John is survived by his wife, Linda of nearly 42 years; and his children, Jeffrey Keenan of Potsdam, NY, Timmy Keenan of Albany, NY; and a grandson, Benjamin and wife, Elizabeth Chapman of North Bangor, NY. John is also survived by his two sisters, Catherine and Joseph Ricchezza of Tampa, FL, Ann and Jeffrey Wheeler of Clymer, NY, and a brother, James and Debra Keenan of College Station, TX; a son in-law, George Chapman, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Chapman on June 30, 2019.
