Floyd W. Cole, 81, Parishville

PARISHVILLE – Calling hours for Floyd W. Cole, 81, a resident of 13 MacCarter Drive, Joe Indian Pond, Parishville, will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Colton.  An Elks service will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a time of sharing and remembering after the Elks service.  Graveside prayers will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 1 p.m. in the Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam.  Mr. Cole passed away on April 30, 2024 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.  Floyd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna, Parishville; a son, David Cole, Parishville and a daughter, Sara Cole and her companion Ronald Burnett, Norfolk.

Born in Springfield, MA on September 2, 1942 to the late William and Marie MacCarter Cole, Floyd graduated from Potsdam Central School, Class of 1961.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era, serving from 1961-1965.  He worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway as a Line Handler, retiring in 2005 after several years of service.  Previously, Floyd worked at ALCOA in the Foundry Division and he along with Donna, operated the Montgomery Ward’s Catalog Store in Potsdam for several years.

              Floyd was introduced to Joe Indian Pond when he was a young boy. His grandfather, Harrison (Mac) MacCarter was a hunting and fishing guide and lived at the Pond. Summers and most hunting seasons were spent at the pond hunting, fishing, swimming, waterskiing and spending time with all the other kids that also spent summers there. Over these summers, he forged lifelong friendships.  After retirement Floyd and his wife moved permanently to the pond, where they have lived for the past 15 years.  Time spent at Joe Indian was a family tradition in which Floyd held dear to his heart.  Floyd loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and also was an avid bowler.  Memorial donations in Floyd’s memory can be made to the Parishville Fire Department or Rescue Squad and memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com .  The Buck Funeral Home in Colton is serving the family of Floyd W.
