It was an exciting day for the Hermon-DeKalb Central School community on Dec. 23 as more than a dozen former students were honored for their achievements on the basketball court.
Honorees included, from left, in the front row, Brittany Whitton, Hunter Hitchman, Bridget Rust, Brianna Sayer and Kim Carpenter; back row, Jon Bardeschewski, Andy Bardeschewski, Fred Foster, Dylan Amo, Matt Brabaw and Zach Denesha.
The honorees were recognized during a ceremony commemorating the fact that they had scored at least 1,000 varsity points during their basketball careers at the school. The ceremony was held between the two varsity basketball games held that day.
Out of the fourteen honorees, eleven were able to attend the ceremony. The individuals were from classes spanning more than five decades. They include:
Note: 3 pointers were not allowed until 1987.
They were all gifted plaques made from pieces of the old school gym floor. A banner will also hang in the new gym to mark their achievements as students at the school.
It was also a successful day for the current Hermon-DeKalb Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams. Before the celebration, the girls defeated Edwards-Knox 48-29 and the boys downed Edwards-Knox 42-40.
The 1,000-point Scorer Celebration event was organized by former Athletic Director Shelly Amo, the Hermon-DeKalb Booster Club, the Hermon-DeKalb Alumni Association, and several other district families and friends.
