Eleanor G. O'Neil (Packard), 86, Madrid

MADRID -- Eleanor G. O’Neil (Packard), age 86, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Massena Hospital.

Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, May 5, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Madrid, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am on Monday, May 6, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Church Madrid, NY with Rev. Garry Giroux officiating.

Burial to follow in the Madrid Cemetery.

Eleanor is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Robert E. O’Neil, and her four daughters, Cyndi (Tim) Hope of Fairfax, VA, Kathy O’Neil of Norfolk, NY, Karen O’Neil of Herndon, VA and Brenda (Don) McCall of Madrid, NY along with her two foster daughters; Elizabeth Stein of Hampstead, NC and Lisa Jenner of Ogdensburg, NY and an exchange student daughter Silvia Azevedo (Kris) Williamson of Armação dos Búzios, Brazil. Eleanor is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Amanda (Chris) Roi, Kathleen (David) Robins, Molly (Kyle Carlson) and Riley Hope, Brock, Heidi, Alyssia and Mathew Simons, Josh O’Neil, Megan and John McCall along with five great-grandsons, Hayden and Zach Roi, MacKinnon and Charles Robins and Anders Carlson. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Watson of Malone, NY and sister-in-law Rita O’Neil of Canton, NY along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was born on October 19, 1937, to the late Charles and Florence (Alguire) Packard in Waddington, NY.

She is a 1956 graduate of Madrid High school.

She married Robert (Bobby) O’Neil on September 28, 1957, at St. John the Baptist Church in Madrid, NY with the late Reverend Maurice O’Neil as officiant.

Eleanor was a member of Norfolk American Legion Post No. 925 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, gardening, Sudoku and bowling.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her brother, Don Packard and a sister, Alice (Noreen) Brander.
