Over thirty snow sculptures, including a Medusa head of snakes, a giant fish, and a variety of cats and snowmen, were created at the fourth annual Frosty Fest Competition held at Ives Park, Potsdam, Jan. 27.

The balmy winter weather and moist snow were ideal for building snow sculptures. Despite the rain and warmer temperatures the previous days, enough snow remained for the event to be held as scheduled.

Participants ranged from solo acts and small family groups to large teams of friends and family members of all ages, from small children to grandparents.

There were prizes for kid and adult divisions in several categories.

The ‘Best in Show’ kid division was given to Abbie Hayes for her Murder Snowman.

The ‘Best in Show’ adult division was awarded for a Giant Fish, created by Max, Adam, and Izzy Petley, Julien and Jason Wells, and Lisa Legault.
The ‘Most North Country’ kid award went to the Snowy Owl, made by Sarah Lister, Rocco and Alice Trithart, Grace Hiltunen, Miranda Britt, Erica LaFountain, Juno Gonzalez and Steve Greco.

A Farmer Snowman, with goat and chicken snow sculptures, won the ‘Most North Country’ adult award, created by St. Lawrence University Sustainability Program students Julia Hahne, Audrey Bowman, Bryn Rodgers and Liz Anderson.

‘Most Artistic’ kid division was given to A.J. St. Onge, of Fort Covington, for her galaxy snow sculpture.
‘Most Artistic’ adult division was awarded for Medusa’s head of snakes, by artistic creators Matt, Maggie, Charlotte, and Penny McKenna.

The ‘Most Comedic’ kid award was given to Amos St. Onge, Fort Covington, for his snowman rubbing the bump on his head after being hit by a falling piece of ice. The ‘Most Comedic’ adult award was given to Darion Grant and Amelia Crosslin.
