Now that the weather has been nicer, I know that I for one am taking advantage and walking and biking more frequently. However, I’ve noticed that, as seems to occur every year in Potsdam, drivers are incredibly inconsiderate of people in crosswalks. In the last week alone, I have had three incidences where people sped through the crosswalk between the Roxy Theater and the public parking lot while I was in it. In all three instances, cars on both sides of the street had stopped to let me cross and I was in the process of doing so when other drivers–apparently too impatient to wait and too busy to pay attention–whipped their vehicles out around the line of cars that were stopped to pass them on the shoulder and almost hit me because they didn’t realize that the cars were stopped to let me safely cross the street. People need to pay attention when they drive. Also, I’d suggest to Potsdam PD that if you want to give out a bunch of tickets, sit by the crosswalk for a while.
