In response to “Clearing Up Proposed Recycling Legislation” which appeared in the May 7-13 issue of North Country This Week: I couldn’t believe the letter I just read by a gentleman who claims viewing someone’s garbage is a violation of their rights? You must be kidding, of course! What you put in your trash affects us all, especially our children and grandchildren. Putting recyclables in with regular garbage puts our environment and ground water at risk while those items can be reused for everyone’s benefit. You do not have any right to put an individual like yourself above the wellbeing of the many. I find it very difficult to believe that any thinking person would claim what you did, sir. Once you put that garbage out at the curb, it isn’t yours anymore. Even law enforcement officers can rummage through it if they wish. The only person who is violating the rights of the community is the person who puts something they shouldn’t in our landfill garbage.
