On Aug. 1 off Sandstone Trail in Hannawa Falls someone left a campfire unattended. A meager attempt must have been made to put it out. I followed the smell down to the wooded riverside and saw that a tree had caught fire. I tried to put it out but it kept flaring so we called 911. Hannawa Falls fireman took over 25 minutes to arrive. Three firemen finally came. I had the worst of the fire out. My friend went up to flag them down. They brought a rake, no bucket. They would not even speak to us. No hello, no thank you! They didn't even know where equipment was in truck. In the end I was more upset with the rude firemen than the idiots who started a fire during such dry conditions. Glad I live in West Potsdam, and don't have to rely on the Hannawa Falls Fire Department.
