In response to “SLC Wants State to Fund Treatments for Inmates” which appeared on the front page of the April 4-10 issue of North Country This Week: I believe this is an amazing idea! Quite late to the game, but great nonetheless. I am aware that budgetary concerns always take precedence when dealing with legislators and I fear they might expect to see results quicker than possible with sort of issue. There is no overnight fix or cure for addiction. Incarcerated or not, these people are all someone's daughter, son, brother, sister, mother, father, cousin, best friend that is now a shell of the person they've known and loved their entire lives. Addiction doesn't discriminate, it affects all walks of life. If you care about your community, then take care of the people that live in it. This is just a side note - there should should also be adequate mental health services available for the community also. Struggling with a mental illness could lead to drug use.
