In response to “Unfriendly Firemen” which appeared in the Aug. 10-16 issue of North Country This Week: Hannawa Falls fire responded with the info the caller gave 911. There was a fire in the woods next to the fire station. Fire trucks did go to the start of the trail and to the end of the trail down by the Sweeney Road. The Sandstone Trail runs two miles along the river, which the fire was half way down the trail. A reminder that these volunteer leave work to respond to a fire that was only 3’ by 3’ and well inside a fire pit. Yes, one fireman had a fire rake, which he used to dig the ground up and put dirt on it. The other firemen had a fire extinguisher, which they did not have to use. Any department relies on the info the caller gives 911, if it's not right the response is slower. So thank you for your community service for putting the fire out before the fire department got there.
