To the person who wrote “Teachers are Greedy” (Feb. 23 – March 1), I think the old adage, you shouldn’t judge a person until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes, would apply. Yes, I have a four-year degree, like you. However, I was also required to obtain a Master’s degree and I must complete many hours of additional training every five years. If health care is the issue, well I do contribute to my health care. It is not free. It is true I work from September to June, though I am in the classroom in July and August preparing for the coming school year. However, I only get paid from September to June. In addition, I do not just work from 8:00-3:00. I come to work early, stay late and then bring work home at night, on weekends and vacations to prepare the best lessons for my students. For these lessons I often spend money, out of my own pocket, to make them more interesting for all students.
