In response to “Cemeteries Need Policing” (North Country This Week July 11-17): Although I can see being offended by people being loud, fishing and drinking beer in a cemetery, I have no issues with people using a cemetery simply for running near loved ones who have died. So long as it is daylight and they aren’t running directly over people’s graves or causing a disruption to a service, then it is not disrespectful in the least to use cemetery roads in this way. I can think of no better tribute to those who have died than to use their burial grounds in a positive way that celebrates life. Clearly the more responsible people who visit cemeteries in a positive and respectful way, the less issues we will have with vandals and other such negative activities
