This is in regard to the discussion and survey on the proposed I-98 (NCTW Survey, Dec. 15-21). Will this project bring more jobs to the north country? Maybe, maybe not. However, what will happen is the downtown business districts of the communities along Route 11 will wither up and die. The life blood traffic that flows through these downtowns will disappear and the businesses that rely on this traffic will disappear. All you need to do is look at the history of our interstate system. Sure some new businesses will start but established businesses will die as their customers speed by on the interstate. Disagree? Take a drive from Watertown to Syracuse on Route 11 and see what you think of the downtowns you drive through.
