In response to “Worse Than Smell,” (July 14-20): The smell from liquid manure is horrible. You asked if people would rather have fresh manure spread. I for one would. I grew up on a farm and there were eight farms within a five-mile radius of us. We all used fresh manure on our fields. The smell was never as bad as the liquid manure. When I drive by a farm that uses the liquid manure I gag and the smell stays with you for many miles. What is put in it that makes it smell so horrible? I agree farming is hard enough but use a little common sense. That smell is horrible and I do not blame people for complaining. I would too.
