In response to the July 6-12 article “Potsdam Trustees Consider Building Permit Cost,” is it wrong to believe that if one can afford to build a $1.2 million home, that one can also easily afford to pay the very meager permit fee of $9,600 dollars? I don't know where building permit fee money goes or what it pays for in our beloved town, but isn't Potsdam financially strapped right now? Does anyone else see a problem with this proposed attempt to be a little more construction-friendly? When building a million dollar home, a permit fee less than $10,000 or even $20,000 sounds more than friendly!
