It was disturbing to see a protected species throughout NYS on the front web page yesterday. It was a sturgeon, and a big one too. When I received an email back from "fishcap" they said the sturgeon had "probably" been released, but I have never seen a released fish held out of the water like that. Most catch/release the fish is not out of the water as in the photo. Very bad example for all the young fishermen in the area, some of whom, catch sturgeon on purpose. For the record, sturgeons are a protected species in all of NYS. This area, and I am a native, is one of the worst when it comes to doing whatever they want in regards to hunting and fishing.
