These people in Massena and other places talking about tourism for economic development need to take a serious look at bringing nationally touring rock bands to the area. Just over Memorial Day weekend, Primus and Mastodon played in Glens Falls. Yes, that’s right, Glens Falls. These bands have devoted fan followings who spend good amounts of money and will travel long distances where they can see these concerts. They typically draw thousands of people, and each one of them is supporting the venue and probably a local show organizer with their ticket purchase. And most (not all, but most) in addition to that are spending money on gas, food, overnight lodging and maybe taxi or Uber/Lyft to and from the venue, and some are even going shopping in town. Many North Country people take thousands of their dollars each year and spend it far outside the area, in other counties and states, and a lot of it goes up to Canada, because that’s where the bands are. We have plenty of venues that could host a show of 1,000 to 2,000 people indoors, and even more outdoors.
