I’m “Joe Schmuck”… an average US citizen. I’ve been working two jobs and my working wife and I are trying to raise three children. We voted for “Change” eight years ago and yes we got change. We got more debt, less wages/working hour, an education system that cannot agree what should be taught to my children, and a national health care plan that we cannot afford unless we quit our three jobs and go on welfare. It’s national election time again and now politicians feel that I am important again. They need or want my vote. They are promising me, my family and my voting children many things. Who will pay for all of these promises? I cannot afford what I am in debt for now. My adult children seem to see a future based on promises made to them. I, too, remember those years when I was their age. Here is how I look at all of it. I struggle to get by every day of my life. I do not look for handouts because my parents did not raise me this way. My children think handouts are the answer. Time will tell. I hope that I am wrong but I feel that someday soon my children will become the new “Joe Schmucks.” National politicians make “Joe Schmucks” like me feel important every four years.
