NORFOLK – State police say they followed a trail of apples and charged two Norfolk men with petit larceny and trespass following an incident Sunday morning in a nearby yard.
Troopers say they received a report of apples stolen from trees in the yard at 46 West High St in the Town of Norfolk. Troopers followed a winding, half-mile long trail of dropped apples from the scene of the crime to the front doorstep of Christopher L. Deshane at 75 West Main St in Norfolk.
Deshane, 33, and Roy A. McGregor, 41, of Sober Street, were charged and issued appearance tickets for court at a later date.
Police say Deshane initially said he knew nothing about the apples before admitting to stealing them with McGregor. They say he then turned over a backpack containing about 60 apples and said that he stole the apples because he was heavily intoxicated and "his wife wanted to make a pie".
