OGDENSBURG -- Funeral services for Wayne G. Pray, age 67, will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018, at St. Mary’s Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery in the Spring. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Frary Funeral Home from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Mr. Pray passed away on Wednesday morning, January 31, 2018, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Wayne is survived by his children, Tiffany Pray, Aaron Pray and his companion, Tracy Oakes, Devon Pray and Heather Pray and her husband, David Bindert, all of Ogdensburg; his grandchildren, Natasha Pray, Ashlyn Pray and Grant Pray; a brother, Robert Pray, of Ogdensburg; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Madeline Elizabeth Pray, in November of 2007.
Wayne was born on November 21, 1950, in Ogdensburg, the son of George and Julia Rutherford Pray. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1970 and also studied Engineering at the State University of New York at Canton in the Class of 1980.
Wayne married Mary Lajoie on May 27, 1972, at the United Methodist Church in Ogdensburg. That marriage ended in divorce twenty-nine years later.
Wayne first worked at Park Street Agway and Fays Drug Store as a Manager. Mr. Pray then became employed as a Correctional Officer for Riverview Correctional Facility in Ogdensburg, where he retired from in 2014.
Wayne was a life long bass player. He played in a number of bands over the years. His most notable achievements in music were playing a one-off show with Neil Young in Lake Placid, in 1976 and being asked to accommodate Foghat to complete a tour. He declined the position to remain close to his family.
Wayne loved fishing with his grandchildren, going to the shooting range and playing live with his band, Six Days.
