NORWOOD -- A Mass of Christian Burial for 78 year old Rollin A. Beattie, a resident of 28 Depot Street, will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood with Rev. Msgr. John Murphy presiding.
Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Norwood following the services.
Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Mr. Beattie passed away Monday morning, May 14, 2018, at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Rollin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet, Norwood; a son, William Beattie, Norwood; two daughters, Susan and Finbarr O’Hea, Avon, Massachusetts; Carolyn and Brent Pierce, Rotterdam, NY; his four grandchildren, Brandon Beattie, Kathleen and Tara O’Hea and Harper Pierce; a brother, Lawrence Beattie, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Rollin was pre-deceased by his parents and a brother Joseph “Keith” Beattie.
Born at his family home in Louisville, NY on August 27, 1939, to the late John and Mary Brady Beattie, Rollin graduated from Massena Central School in 1959.
He worked as a truck driver for Barrett’s for 20 years and then worked for SUNY Potsdam as a project manager, overseeing various construction projects and retiring after several years.
Rollin was very active in his local community as he was a member of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee, a member of the Potsdam Town Board, the current Potsdam Town Supervisor and a member of the Baldwin Acres Board of Directors.
Rollin was also active with St. Andrew’s Church where he was a communicant of and he was also a member of the K of C.
Rollin enjoyed politics and visiting with his friends. He also at one time volunteered his time driving for St. Lawrence County Elderly.
