Mildred K. Giordano, age 91, formerly of South Bombay and a resident of the Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011.
Born December 31, 1919 in Port Jefferson, Long Island she was the daughter of the late Richard and Madeline Drosgrey Kamper. She attended High School in Cresskill, New Jersey, She later graduated from Englewood School of Nursing in New Jersey where she received her Registered Nurse Degree.
For many years she was an operating room RN at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She also worked in the operating room at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She later served as Head Nurse at the William Manson Nursing Home in Malone. She also drove school bus for Salmon River Central School.
She was a literacy volunteer and enjoyed church and participating in church activities, she was a volunteer for bible study at the Barehill Correctional Facility. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing and bird watching and playing the rainbow clown at the hospital and nursing homes. On March 30th 1942 she was united in marriage to Joseph Giordano in Newport, RI. He predeceased her in July of 1992.
Mildred is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Lourdes Giordano of Deerfield Beach, FL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and David Winters of N. Bangor, and Virginia and Keith Merrick of Candler, NC; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her brother, Richard Kamper.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Flint Funeral Home with Rev. Don Alexander officiating. Burial will take place in Sunnyside Cemetery in the spring.
