WADDINGTON -- John R. Whyte, 78, formerly of Waddington, peacefully passed away on December 15, 2017 at an assisted living facility in Florida, where he had been residing for the past several years. A graveside service will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waddington.
John was born on September 1, 1939 in Ogdensburg, the son of the late William and Agnes (Downey) Whyte. He served in the US Army from 1962 until 1964.
John married Barbara Samphier in 1964 at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. Although the marriage ended in divorce, the two remained good friends. John worked several years at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg as an upholster. He later went on to teach the Multi-Occupations Program at BOCES in Norwood, retiring after many years. John loved going to antique car and corvette shows.
John is survived by two daughters, Carrie Whyte of Holiday, FL and Beth Whyte of Lisbon; a son, Kristian and wife Margo of Fleming Island, FL; two granddaughters, Francis “Frankie” and Corey Leanne Whyte.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Whyte; two brothers, Tony and Michael Whyte.
Local arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington.
