John J, Kukie, 90, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Funeral services for John J. Kukie, age 90, will be held on Thursday, Dec 7, 2017, beginning with calling hours at 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

The funeral mass will follow at St. Mary’s Cathedral at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Pinehill Cemetery.

Mr. Kukie passed away on Saturday,Dec 2, 2017, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Surviving are two sons, Andrew & Matthew Kukie of Ogdensburg; a brother, Michael Kukie of Florida; a sister, Veronica Alford of California; along with many nieces & nephews.

His wife, Mary Susan Kukie in 1997; a son, Edward John Kukie in 1993; and siblings Charles Cooke, Joseph Kuziuk, Walter Kukie, Helen Maurielo, Josephine Kukie, Anna Kukie and Mary Ryan predeceased him.

John was born Jonnes James Kukie on March 29, 1927, in Witherbee, NY, a son of the late P. Michel E. & Mary (Harlik) Kuziuk.

He graduated from Mineville High School where he enjoyed playing football and baseball, and later entered the US Army in 1945 until 1947 during WWII.

He attended the NYS Police Academy after being discharged from the Army, and soon after married Mary “Susan” Fisher at St. Mary’s Cathedral on May 30, 1960.

John became a NYS Trooper on Feb 15, 1955, and served with troops F & D where he held rank of Sargent in 1974, and station commander in Ogdensburg on Aug 1, 1978. He retired from his long career on Sept 11, 1982, and later became a security guard in Syracuse for a few years.

John was a member of the Civilian Conversation Corps, a life member of the VFW and St. Mary’s Cathedral.

In his early retirement he enjoyed camping on Lake George and the St. Lawrence River with his family. He also enjoyed playing cards, betting on horse races, reading newspapers, cheering for sons favorite sports teams, watching current events on television and his pet cats.
