Doris H. Markwick, 84, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 20th at 11:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Judy Hay and Rev. Dr. Richard Mayforth officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours will be held Saturday 10 - 11:30 a.m., prior to the service.
Doris was born July 24, 1928 in Durham, Ontario in Canada, the daughter of George and Sarah Jones Hay. She graduated from Gouverneur High School and worked in the Gouverneur community for many years. Doris worked for the telephone company before working in the offices of Dr. John Duskas and Dr. Robert Audycki.
On August 3, 1947, Doris married Everett J. Markwick in Gouverneur with Rev. Joseph Schofield officiating. Mr. Markwick, a retired mason and bricklayer, passed away January 29, 1997.
Doris had belonged to a knitting club, the Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church, and the Gouverneur Business Women. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.
Doris is survived by a son, Ted and Joy Markwick of Gouverneur; a daughter, Patte and Skip Beers of Arizona; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband and parents; a twin sister, Christena Hall and four brothers, Bain, Robert, Clifford, and Gordon Hay.
