CANTON -- The Zonta Club of Canton is accepting scholarship applications for its 2018-19 scholarship program.
Students attending Canton Central, Colton Pierrepont Central, Gouverneur Central, Hermon-DeKalb Central, Madrid-Waddington Central, Norwood-Norfolk Central, Parishville-Hopkinton Central, Potsdam Central, Massena Central, Edwards-Knox Central and St. Lawrence Central can apply.
Applications are available at any of these high schools’ guidance offices or by contacting Lyn Swafford, PO Box 495, South Colton, New York 13687, or call her at 315-262-2807.
The scholarships include the following.
• Members’ Memorial Scholarship: A $600.00 scholarship awarded in memory of former Zonta Club members (Millie Post, Mae LaBrake, Katherine Schwarzkopf and Teddy Molnar) to a graduating senior showing good leadership skills and dedication to service. Zonta Scholarship Committee deadline is April 30.
• The Putnam Pitts Scholarship: A $600.00 scholarship given in memory of two former Zonta Club members to a deserving graduating senior with a distinguished academic record. Zonta Scholarship Committee deadline is April 30.
• The Canton Zonta Club Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award: A $600.00 scholarship given to a junior or senior for outstanding community service. Academic achievement is NOT a factor in selecting a winner. Zonta Scholarship Committee deadline is March 1.
• Young Women in Public Affairs: A $300.00 scholarship given to a senior woman who will enter a four year college or university and seek a career in policy making, government, or a volunteer organization. Zonta Scholarship Committee deadline is March 1.
• SUNY Canton College Scholarship: A scholarship given in memory of former Zonta Club member (Margaret Sibley) to a single parent who is enrolled at SUNY Canton with a goal of and progress toward earning a college degree. Zonta Scholarship Committee deadline is April 30. The amount of this endowed scholarship, given through SUNY Canton by Zonta, is determined by the SUNY Canton Foundation Office.
All winners and a guest should plan to attend the Canton Zonta Club’s scholarship dinner on June 18. More details will follow when winners are announced.
