POTSDAM -- Young musicians are invited to audition for Community Performance Series' upcoming spring presentation of the hit National Public Radio program "From the Top."

Hosted by Christopher O'Riley, "From the Top" showcases America's best young classical musicians. A live taping of the show sponsored by CPS will be presented at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music on April 21, 2012.

Young musicians can apply anytime by filling out an application and mailing a recording on DVD, CD or VHS to "From The Top." Casting and application information is available at www.fromthetop.org/casting.

In addition, CPS is partnering with North Country Public Radio to offer two recording sessions for young area musicians who would like to apply. NCPR will create high-quality recordings of auditions for producers to review.

CPS will host the two recording sessions Saturday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 7 in Wakefield Recital Hall, SUNY Potsdam. Recording session space is limited to 14 musicians. Reservations are required, and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a spot, contact Amy Flack at 267-2412 or flackal@potsdam.edu.

Audition entries are accepted from young classical musicians, ages 8 to 18, who have not graduated from high school. Solo performers on all instruments, composers and vocalists, as well as instrumental or vocal ensembles are welcome.

In addition to seeking talent for its upcoming live concert in Potsdam, the program seeks young musicians for other concerts that are part of its national tour on a rolling admissions basis.

The "From the Top" variety show format features serious musical performances and lively interviews with some of the country's best pre-collegiate performers. This unique blend of music, talk and humor draws nearly 700,000 loyal listeners each week and is aired regionally on North Country Public Radio. After every live concert recording, performers are invited to share their music, experiences, and related passions with their peers in schools and/or a variety of community settings through the "From the Top" arts leadership program.
