Friday, December 22, 2017 - 8:57 am

A winter weather advisory is in effect for St. Lawrence County from 7 a.m. today through 7 p.m. on Saturday as heavy snowfall could create hazardous travel conditions as we head into the holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service..

A very active weather pattern is expected across the North Country through Christmas Day with 3 to 7 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain possible today through Saturday, forecasters say..

A widespread light to moderate snowfall today will transition to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, freezing, and rain on Saturday, before ending as a period of snow again Saturday night, forecasters say.

A wind chill value of -1 is expected today with northeast winds of 7 to 9 miles per hour, the service says.

Snow and sleet are expected early on Saturday before becoming all snow after noon, NWS says. Forecasters expect a high around 25 degrees on Saturday.

Cooler air will likely arrive for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the service says.

A winter weather advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. Allow extra time if travel is necessary.
