Storm watch issued for St. Lawrence County, 12+ inches of snow possible in some areas, weather service says

A winter storm watch is in effect in St. Lawrence County as rain this afternoon is expected to turn to sleet tomorrow and later creating the potential up to a foot of snow between Friday night and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

All of northern New York will have the potential to receive 4 to 8 inches of snow with localized amounts up to 10 inches on Friday, NWS said.

Before the snow, a light coating of ice will be possible.

A seven-day forecast follows:

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 46. South wind 9 to 13 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday night: Rain, mainly after 8pm. Low around 44. South wind 11 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday: Rain before 4pm, then freezing rain and sleet likely. Temperature falling to around 27 by 5pm. South wind 10 to 17 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night: Snow. Low around 10. Wind chill values as low as -6. North wind 11 to 18 mph becoming east in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Saturday: Snow, mainly before 3pm. High near 11. North wind 11 to 14 mph becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -6. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 9. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -9. Light and variable wind.

M.L. King Day: Partly sunny, with a high near 12. Light and variable wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the morning.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -1. East wind around 6 mph.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 16. East wind around 6 mph becoming north in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 0. Northwest wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 16. West wind around 7 mph.
